This species is native to North America, and has been specifically recorded from Florida, Georgia, Maine, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Nova Scotia, Ohio, Ontario, and South Carolina. Adult Neocataclysta magnificalis have been observed in flight throughout the entire year. The scientific authority for this species is Hübner, who first described it in 1796.
