About Nectouxia formosa Kunth
Nectouxia is a monotypic genus of flowering plants in the Solanaceae family. This genus contains just one species, Nectouxia formosa. The species belongs to the Solanoideae subfamily, and to Subtribe Salpichroinae, a subtribe within the tribe Physaleae. It is native to Texas in the United States and Mexico. The genus name Nectouxia honors Hippolyte Nectoux (1759–1836), a French botanist who served as director of a botanical garden in Santo Domingo, head gardener in Fontainebleau, and founder of a botanical garden in Rome. The specific epithet formosa comes from the Latin word formosus, meaning well-formed or beautiful. Both the genus and species were first described and published in 1818, in F.W.H.von Humboldt, A.J.A.Bonpland & C.S.Kunth's Nov. Gen. Sp. Volume 3, on page 10.
