About Nassella trichotoma (Nees) Hack. & Arechav.
Nassella trichotoma, with the full scientific name Nassella trichotoma (Nees) Hack. & Arechav., generally grows in dense tufts (a growth habit called cespitose). Mature plants reach between 20 cm (7.9 inches) and 60 cm (24 inches) in height. Its branches typically measure 2 to 6 cm (2.4 inches) in length, and its simple dry fruits, called caryopses, grow to approximately 1.2 mm (0.047 inches) long. This species produces a very large number of seeds, which rely on wind to disperse across long distances. It matches the size and general appearance of native plants native to Oceania, and this similarity led to a delay in recognizing it as a harmful invasive weed.
