About Narcissus cavanillesii Barra & G.López
Narcissus cavanillesii Barra & G.López is a bulbous plant that grows between 8 and 18 cm (3.1 to 7.1 inches) tall. It differs from all other known species of the Narcissus genus by having a corona that is almost completely absent; this unusual characteristic is why the species was formerly classified within its own separate genus. This plant is native to the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula and Northwest Africa, where it occurs in Morocco extending south to Agadir, and in Algeria. It grows in multiple habitat types, including forest clearings, scrublands, Mediterranean pastures, riparian communities, and road edges. It is found in sub-humid Mediterranean climates, occurring at elevations ranging from sea level up to 730 m (2,400 ft) above sea level, and occasionally reaching as high as 1,000 m (3,300 ft) above sea level.
