About Nannodiplax rubra Brauer, 1868

Nannodiplax rubra Brauer, 1868, commonly known as the pygmy percher, is a species of dragonfly that belongs to the monotypic genus Nannodiplax. Its distribution is currently understood to be limited to Australia and New Guinea. These are very small dragonflies, with a wingspan of 40 mm and a total body length of 25 mm. They have a bright red abdomen and clear wings. They inhabit areas near a wide variety of rivers and streams. Within Australia, their range extends from Broome, Western Australia through the northern and eastern parts of the country to around Coffs Harbour, New South Wales. This taxon has not yet been assessed for the IUCN Red List, but it is included in the Catalogue of Life.
