Mythimna pudorina (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775 has a wingspan of 35–38 mm. Its forewings are flesh-coloured ochreous, densely covered in fine grey speckling; the veins are slightly paler. The upper half of the cell and the upper half of the submedian interval are often paler and lack grey dusting, with the pale streak through the cell extending all the way to the wing margin. Sometimes, a darker streak along the lower half of the cell also extends to the termen. The hindwing is dark grey, with a pale fringe. impudens Hbn. is a less heavily marked grey form that lacks any reddish tinge. rufescens Tutt is a rare British form that is bright rosy red, with pale grey dusting. striata Tutt is a darker form, with grey wing intervals that appear blackish.
