About Mythimna albipuncta Gaede, 1916
This moth species has a wingspan of 30 to 35 mm, and forewings measure 14 to 17 mm in length. Forewings are rufous brown, dusted with grey, with a whitish costal edge. The brown lines are edged paler on the reverse side; the outer line is obscurely lunulate-dentate, with no dots marking the teeth on the veins. The submarginal line is pale, diffuse, and edged darker on the outer side. The reniform stigma forms a distinct white spot at the lower end of the cell. Hindwings are dark or pale grey, sometimes tinged with rufous or ochreous. Several named forms and additional variants exist. The form italogallica Mill has darker, dull brown wings. The form flecki Carad., found in Romania and the Bukovina, is rather smaller, with dull grey brown forewings and fuscous hindwings. In the form fasciata Spul., darker brown tints are more strongly developed in the median area, forming a distinct fascia. Two additional undescribed named forms are documented. Ab. ochrea nov. [Warren] is ochreous, dusted with grey, with a slight flush: rufous in males, reddish brown in females. Its lines are dark grey, the marginal area is darker, and the white spot at the end of the cell is present as usual. Hindwings are dirty whitish in males with a greyer termen, and more entirely grey in females. This variant is known from two male specimens collected in Silvaplana, Engadine, Switzerland, and one female specimen with no recorded locality. The other variant, ab. expallidata nov. [Warren], is quite small, with smooth pale grey wings that carry a tannish-peach tinge. The inner line is barely traceable, but the outer line is black and distinct across its entire length, with all lunules and teeth strongly marked. The usual dark marginal area matches the color of the rest of the wing, and the median vein is dark below the white discal spot. Hindwings are dirty white, becoming greyer toward the termen. This variant is known from one female specimen collected in Digne, Basses Alpes in June 1908.
