About Myrsine coriacea (Sw.) R.Br.

Myrsine coriacea (Sw.) R.Br. is a species of flowering plant in the family Primulaceae. This species is a tree native to tropical Americas; its native range extends from Mexico, through the Caribbean and Central America, across tropical South America, all the way to northern Argentina. In Colombia, it is native to the Andes, Caribbean, Pacific, and Magdalena Valley regions, growing at elevations between 820 and 3360 meters. It has documented uses as both medicine and food. Three subspecies of Myrsine coriacea are currently accepted: Myrsine coriacea subsp. coriacea, Myrsine coriacea subsp. nigrescens (Lundell) Ricketson & Pipoly, and Myrsine coriacea subsp. reticulata (Steyerm.) Pipoly.
