Myrmecocichla aethiops, commonly known as the anteater chat or northern anteater-chat, is a species of bird that belongs to the Muscicapidae family. The species' geographic range spans the Sahel region and the East African montane forests. Its natural habitats include dry savanna, subtropical or tropical dry lowland grassland, and subtropical or tropical high-altitude grassland. Individuals of this species have been observed nesting in abandoned wells in Nigeria. This species was first formally described by Cabanis in 1850.
