About Myrmecia mandibularis Smith, 1858

Myrmecia mandibularis is an Australian species of ant in the genus Myrmecia, first described by Smith in 1858. Adult individuals of this species average between 15 and 30 millimetres in overall size. This species shares a similar general appearance with Myrmecia pilosula, but differs in that its mandibles are entirely black, and most of its abdomen is orange. Myrmecia mandibularis occurs primarily in southern regions of Australia, and is most frequently encountered in the area around Perth.
