Myrmecia gilberti is an Australian ant species that belongs to the genus Myrmecia, and is native to Australia. This species is distributed across all eastern Australian states and regions. It has a similar appearance to the jack jumper ant. Worker individuals of Myrmecia gilberti range in length from 9.5 to 15 millimetres. Mature females reach 16.5 millimetres in length, while males only grow to 11.5 millimetres. The mandibles, legs, and antennae are brown, and the tarsi are a lighter shade than the rest of these structures. The head is black, and the upper surface of the thorax ranges between black and golden yellow.
