About Myrmecia brevinoda Forel, 1910
Myrmecia brevinoda Forel, 1910 is a species of bull ant that is native to Australia. This species is found only in eastern Australian states: eastern Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and the Australian Capital Territory. The species was first formally described in 1910. Worker Myrmecia brevinoda ants can reach a total length of 3.7 cm (1.5 in), while queens can grow longer than 4.0 cm (1.6 in). This size makes Myrmecia brevinoda one of the largest types of bull ants in Australia, and also one of the largest in the world. Most of the ant's body is dark red, while the bulbous section of its abdomen is black.
