About Muscicapa williamsoni Deignan, 1957

The brown-streaked flycatcher, scientifically named Muscicapa williamsoni, is a bird species belonging to the family Muscicapidae. Its established range covers southern Myanmar, southern Thailand, northern peninsular Malaysia, and northeast Borneo. Some taxonomic authorities classify this taxon as a subspecies of the Asian brown flycatcher, rather than recognizing it as a full separate species. In 2020, a vagrant individual of this species was spotted 300 km (190 mi) south of Broome, an Australian town. The individual’s species identity was confirmed through DNA analysis of its droppings. During the breeding season, this species has rufescent-colored plumage; after the breeding season, its plumage becomes drab. The specific epithet williamsoni honors the collector Sir Walter James Franklin Williamson.
