About Muhlenbergia utilis (Torr.) Hitchc.
Muhlenbergia utilis (Torr.) Hitchc. is a rhizomatous perennial grass that produces decumbent stems reaching up to around 30 centimeters in length. Its leaves grow no longer than 3 to 5 centimeters, and are just a few millimeters wide. Its inflorescence is a small, narrow cluster of short branches that is partially enclosed by a sheath, and it bears small spikelets. This grass is native to North and Central America. Its native range extends across the southwestern United States and California, through Mexico, and reaches as far south as Costa Rica. It grows in wet habitats such as riverbanks and meadows, and can sometimes be found growing in alkaline soils.
