Its inflorescence is a narrow arrangement of short, appressed to upright branches that are densely lined with small, pointed spikelets. Each individual spikelet is a few millimeters long. This species occurs primarily in moist and wet habitats, including meadows, wetlands, seeps, and drainage ditches.
