About Moraea polystachya (Thunb.) Ker Gawl.

Moraea polystachya (Thunb.) Ker Gawl. is a herbaceous perennial geophyte that grows to approximately 80 millimeters in height. Its leaves are green, linear, long and narrow, with a shape similar to a grass blade. This species produces flowers in clusters at the tip of its branches. The flowers range in color from blue to lilac, and have the characteristic appearance of an Iris flower. In the southern hemisphere, it flowers primarily from March to May. Moraea polystachya occurs naturally in Namibia, as well as in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, and North West Province of South Africa. It is currently classified as Least Concern on the SANBI red list.
