About Mopsus mormon Karsch, 1878
Mopsus mormon, scientifically named Mopsus mormon Karsch, 1878, is one of the larger jumping spider species found in Australia. Females reach a body length of 12 millimeters, and the species is very common in Queensland. Its known distribution also includes New Guinea, northern New South Wales, the Northern Territory, northern Tasmania, and Western Australia. Male Mopsus mormon have striking coloration, along with distinctive long white "side whiskers" that rise to a peak, topped with a topknot of black hairs. Females do not have these whiskers or the black topknot; instead, they have a distinct red and white "mask" marking.
