The forest rock thrush, with the scientific name Monticola sharpei (G.R.Gray, 1871), is a songbird. It is classified in the family Muscicapidae; previously, it was placed in the Turdidae, along with all other chats. Currently, Benson's rock thrush and Amber Mountain rock thrush are classified as subspecies of this bird. It is endemic to Madagascar. Its type locality is the forests located east of Ambatondrazaka, a town that sits south of Lake Alaotra. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, and subtropical or tropical moist montane forest.
