About Monolopia stricta Crum

Monolopia stricta Crum is a species of flowering plant in the Asteraceae family, commonly known as Crum's monolopia. This plant is endemic to central California, where it grows in the Central Valley, as well as the adjacent mountain ranges and foothills that flank the valley. It grows in open grasslands and chaparral, most often in clay soils. It is an annual herb that produces a slender stem, which sometimes branches, reaching up to around 80 centimeters tall. The plant's tissue is usually somewhat woolly in texture. Inflorescences located at the tips of stem branches hold small hemispheric flower heads. The golden ray florets are typically around 1 to 2 centimeters long, though specimens from the western San Joaquin Valley have smaller florets.
