Monochamus alternatus, commonly called the Japanese pine sawyer, is a beetle species belonging to the family Cerambycidae. It was formally described by Frederick William Hope in 1843, under the scientific name Monochamus alternatus Hope, 1843. This species has been recorded from Hong Kong, Vietnam, Laos, North Korea, South Korea, Japan, China, and Taiwan. Its known host plants include Pinus banksiana, Abies firma, Pinus armandii, Pinus massoniana, Pinus yunnanensis, and Pinus densiflora. It acts as a vector for the pine wood nematode Bursaphelenchus xylophilus.
