Monardella purpurea Howell is a perennial herb that grows an erect, purple stem, reaching a maximum height of around 40 centimeters. Its leaves are arranged oppositely, are leathery in texture, widely lance-shaped, and grow up to 3 centimeters long. The inflorescence is a cluster of several flowers, which blooms within a cup formed by leathery purplish bracts. The pinkish purple flowers are just over 1 centimeter long, narrow and tubular in shape, with pointed lobes and protruding stamens. This species flowers from June to July.
