About Monardella macrantha A.Gray

Monardella macrantha A.Gray is a perennial herb that grows in a low tuft of slender stems. Its stems are lined with thick, shiny green leaves that reach up to 3 centimeters in length. Its inflorescence is a head holding several tubular flowers, which blooms within a cup of red-tinged green bracts that can be up to 4 centimeters wide. The clustered flowers range in color from bright red to yellowish, and they sometimes exceed 4 centimeters in length, with narrow lobed mouths. Monardella macrantha is cultivated by specialty plant nurseries. It is sold as an ornamental plant for use in native plant gardens, drought-tolerant gardens, natural landscape gardens, and habitat gardens, as well as for ecological restoration projects.
