About Moma alpium (Osbeck, 1778)
This species, currently known as Moma alpium (Osbeck, 1778), was previously referred to as D. alpium Osb. and also synonymized with orion Esp. The forewings are blue-green, with the costa and both folds colored white; the stigmata and lines are black, and the outer area has a brown outer border. The hindwings are fuscous, with black and white marks at the anal angle. A named form murrhina Grues. found in Western Asia has forewing green that is much more broken up by black markings between the lines, and the brown shade beyond the outer line is wider, extending into the fringe. Specimens from Japan are as large as those from Europe, while specimens from Korea are decidedly smaller. The larva is pale brown with yellow streaks; it has a black dorsum with three transverse yellowish white blotches; the tubercles are reddish, and bear erect tufts of hairs.
