About Miramella alpina (Kollar, 1833)

Miramella alpina (Kollar, 1833), commonly known as the alpine grasshopper, shows clear size differences between adult males and females. Adult males reach 16 to 23 millimetres (0.63 to 0.91 inches) in length, while adult females grow to between 22 and 30 millimetres (0.87 to 1.18 inches). Both sexes have a bright green basic body color. Longitudinal black stripes run along the sides of the pronotum, and in males, these stripes extend all the way to the abdomen. This species is typically brachypterous: its usually light-brown wings are very reduced and cannot be used for flight. The undersides of the hind leg femora are red. Tibiae of the hind legs are yellowish in females and black in males. This common alpine grasshopper can be found in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, and Switzerland.
