About Mimosa quadrivalvis var. nuttallii (DC.) Beard ex Barneby
This variety of plant has the scientific name Mimosa quadrivalvis var. nuttallii (DC.) Beard ex Barneby. It is a sprawling herbaceous plant with alternate compound leaves. Each leaf holds up to 16 pairs of leaflets, which fold together when touched. Its stem is covered in small, curved backward-pointing prickles. It produces round flowerheads made up of many pink individual flowers; each flower is only 3 mm (0.12 in) long, with stamens that extend outside the flower petals. Its fruits are also covered in prickles. It flowers between May and September. The broader species Mimosa quadrivalvis is native to Mexico, Belize, and Puerto Rico. It grows in habitats including glades, open woods, thickets, prairies, and roadsides.
