About Miltochrista miniata (Forster, 1771)

The wingspan of Miltochrista miniata ranges from 23 to 27 mm. This moth has a tannish-peach base wing colour, with a rose-red margin on the forewing. Beyond the middle of the forewing runs a black dentate line, and there are elongated black spots located just before the forewing margin. In male individuals, the costa curves upward after the apex of the cell. Two named variations exist. The first is ab. rosaria Butler, which is now recognized as the full species Miltochrista rosaria; this form is more common in the eastern part of the distribution range than the western part, and it may be a distinct species, with a more yellow base wing colour. The second is ab. crogea Bignault, which has entirely pale yellow wings, and the forewing of this form is edged with bright yellow.
