It is native to Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala, and grows at elevations between 1,000โ€“2,700 m (3,300โ€“8,900 ft). It is a perennial plant that grows from a corm measuring 1โ€“2 cm (0.4โ€“0.8 in) across, and flowers in the summer. Plants produce 2โ€“10 narrow leaves; each leaf is 1 mm (0.04 in) wide, and ranges from half to the full length of the scape. Its fruits are ovoid capsules that are 1.5โ€“2 cm (0.6โ€“0.8 in) long.
