This species, Messor ibericus Santschi, 1931, has a reddish brown body color. Workers of M. ibericus measure 4 to 9 mm in length, while queens measure 9 to 10 mm in length. Individuals of this species have relatively small eyes. Males of Messor ibericus can be distinguished from males of Messor structor by the presence of hair, since M. structor males are hairless.
