About Merops lafresnayii Guérin-Méneville, 1843

Scientific name: Merops lafresnayii Guérin-Méneville, 1843. For a typical Ethiopian bee-eater, the back feathers are green, the underparts are russet, the throat is yellow, and a dark blue band wraps around the crown, eyes, and across the breast. In flight, a black stripe and additional russet feathers are visible beneath the back and along the underside of the wings. Viewed from above, the wing feathers of the Ethiopian bee-eater are tawny closer to the body and azure blue toward the wingtips, with a black stripe running along the trailing edge of the wings.
