About Melitoma taurea (Say, 1837)
Melitoma taurea, commonly known as the mallow bee, is a species of chimney bee belonging to the family Apidae. This species is found in North America. It has distinct strong white bands across its abdomen, and is less hairy than bees from the genera Melissodes and Eucera. A unique feature of Melitoma taurea is its exceptionally long tongue, which reaches all the way to the abdomen even when folded.
