About Melipotis jucunda Hübner, 1818

Melipotis jucunda, commonly known as the merry melipotis moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Erebidae. It was first described by Hübner in 1818. This species occurs in most of the United States, western Canada, Mexico’s Yucatán and Mérida regions, Colombia, and northeast Brazil. Its wingspan measures 35–42 mm. In New Jersey, this moth produces two or three generations per year, while it has multiple generations annually across the southern portion of its range. The larvae of Melipotis jucunda feed on Salix bonplandia, Salix wrighti, Acacia species, and Calliandra eriophylla.
