About Melicytus macrophyllus A.Cunn.

Melicytus macrophyllus, commonly known as large-leaved māhoe, is a small tree in the Violaceae family that grows up to 6 metres (20 feet) tall. This species is endemic to New Zealand, where it occurs across the North Island from Kaitaia to the Waitākere Ranges. It resembles Melicytus ramiflorus, but is generally smaller overall, and has larger leaves that are often toothed along their upper half. Its early-spring flowers grow on long stalks and are typically greenish yellow. The fruits of Melicytus macrophyllus always hold 4 to 6 seeds, and range in color from white to dark purple.
