About Melichrus adpressus A.Cunn. ex DC.
Melichrus adpressus is an upright shrub that grows 30โ150 cm (12โ59 in) tall. Most of its branches have upward overlapping, appressed leaves, and this arrangement only occasionally occurs toward the branch base. The leaves are smooth, 15โ32 mm (0.59โ1.26 in) long and 2.5โ5.6 mm (0.098โ0.220 in) wide. They have ribbing on the lower surface, sometimes develop a reddish color at the base, and have translucent margins near the petiole. The species produces cream or yellowish-green flowers that are more or less hidden among the leaves. The flower corolla is more or less cylindrical, 3.8โ4 mm (0.15โ0.16 in) long, with upright lobes that have occasional hairs and measure 2.6โ2.8 mm (0.10โ0.11 in) long. Flowering takes place from July to September. The fruit is more or less spherical, about 4 mm (0.16 in) long, green, finely ribbed on the lower side, and smooth at the end. This species, commonly called large nectar-heath, grows in heath, on sandy soils, and in coastal scrub north of Angourie Point in New South Wales, as well as in Queensland.
