About Melica nutans L.
Melica nutans L. is a grass species that grows from slender, creeping rhizomes. Its culms reach 25โ970 centimetres (9.8โ381.9 in) in height. Its inflorescence holds 5โ15 fertile spikelets, which are oblong, compressed, and 6โ8 millimetres (0.24โ0.31 in) long. Each spikelet contains 2โ3 fertile florets, with additional smaller florets at the apex. The fertile florets are 5โ7 millimetres (0.20โ0.28 in) long and elliptic in shape. The flowers have 3 anthers that measure 1.5โ2 millimetres (0.059โ0.079 in) in length. Glumes are thinner than the fertile lemma; the lower glume is 4โ6 millimetres (0.16โ0.24 in) long, and matches the length of the upper glume. This grass grows in shady, hillside habitats at elevations between 100โ2,300 metres (330โ7,550 ft).
