About Melica californica Scribn.

Melica californica Scribn. is a perennial bunch grass that usually grows rhizomes. It produces a dense cluster of stems that reach a maximum height of around 1.3 metres, or 4 feet 3 inches. Its inflorescence is a narrow arrangement of green spikelets marked with purple bands. This grass is native to Oregon and California, where it grows across many different habitat types, ranging from mountain forests to open grassland at sea level. It is cultivated through the specialty horticulture trade and sold as an ornamental grass for natural landscapes, native plant gardens, drought-tolerant water-conserving gardens, and habitat gardens.
