About Melanortocarya obtusifolia (Willd.) Selvi, Bigazzi, Hilger & Papini
Melanortocarya obtusifolia (Willd.) Selvi, Bigazzi, Hilger & Papini is a species of flowering plant in the family Boraginaceae. It is the only species that belongs to the genus Melanortocarya. This is an annual plant native to southeastern Europe and the eastern Mediterranean. Its native range extends from Greece and Bulgaria through Turkey, Syria, and Lebanon, all the way to Israel. Carl Ludwig Willdenow first described this species in 1798 under the name Lycopsis obtusifolia. In 2006, the species was reclassified and moved to its own genus, resulting in the current scientific name Melanortocarya obtusifolia.
