About Melanchroia chephise (Stoll, 1782)

Melanchroia chephise, commonly known as the white-tipped black or snowbush spanworm, is a moth species belonging to the family Geometridae. Its permanent range extends from Florida and Texas in the United States, southward to Paraguay. Occasional stray individuals of this species have been recorded in Arizona, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, and Illinois. This moth has a wingspan of approximately 33 millimeters. Adult moths are active in flight from September through December. The larvae of Melanchroia chephise feed on plant species from the family Phyllanthaceae, including genera Breynia and Phyllanthus.
