About Melanargia lachesis Hübner, 1790
This species, scientifically known as Melanargia lachesis Hübner, 1790, has forewings that measure 25–28 mm in length. It is lighter in color than Melanargia galathea, even lighter than the palest forms of M. galathea. The black anguliform discocellular spot on the forewing is constricted at its bend. The hindwing is completely white, with the exception of an interrupted submarginal band. The base of the hindwing has very little dusting, and in males, the markings on the underside of the hindwing are visible through the upper side. A rarer form, canigulensis Obth., has a creamy yellow ground color instead of chalky white, and this form occurs in the Pyrenees. The species can be found on the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal) and southern France.
