About Megaskepasma erythrochlamys Lindau
Megaskepasma is a monotypic plant genus, meaning it contains only one species: Megaskepasma erythrochlamys Lindau. This species is commonly known as Brazilian red-cloak. It is native to Venezuela and Suriname. It is a freely branching, upright, showy tropical shrub that grows up to 3 meters tall. It has appressed reddish hairs, stout stems, and broad ovate dark green leaves that are 12 to 30 centimeters long, with a pink midrib. It is cultivated as an ornamental shrub in climates ranging from warm temperate to tropical, valued for its inflorescence: large, erect heads of showy crimson bracts that bear two-lipped white flowers. This plant grows best in rich soil, and can be propagated from either seed or cuttings.
