About Megalocaria dilatata (Fabricius, 1775)
This species of large ladybeetle, Megalocaria dilatata, has an approximate body length of 11 mm. It has a circular body outline and a strongly convex, hemispherical dorsum. Its body ranges in color from bright orange to yellowish. Each of its two elytra bears five black spots, for a total of ten black spots on the elytra. These spots are arranged in three rows in a 1:2:2 pattern. The lateral margin of the pronotum and the anterolateral margins of the elytra are black. On the head, there is one diamond-shaped, elongate black spot on either side of the inner margin of the eyes. The scutellum is entirely black. The marginal portion of each elytron is much darker than the rest of the elytron. The elytra are glabrous, finely punctate, and their interspaces are covered with micro sculptures. Ventrally, a prominent black spot occurs along the line of the metasternum and on the elytral epipleuron. The pronotum ranges in color from faint orange to yellow, and bears two prominent black spots, one on either side of the scutellum.
