About Megadromus capito (White, 1846)

Megadromus capito is a shiny black ground beetle whose pronotum (thorax cover) may sometimes have a greenish tint. Horizontal linear grooves run along the full length of its wing covers. This species displays sexual dimorphism, with males growing significantly larger than females. Megadromus capito has three larval instars during its development. Females carry a relatively small number of eggs: the maximum recorded clutch size is 26, while the average clutch size is 10.5 eggs. Eggs gestate for a minimum of six months, and females show brooding behavior by guarding their eggs. Megadromus capito is considered a long-lived beetle species.
