About Meconema meridionale Costa, 1860

Meconema meridionale (Costa, 1860) is an insect species in the family Tettigoniidae, commonly called the southern oak bush cricket. Excluding antennae, individuals of this species typically measure 14 to 17 millimeters in length. This species is carnivorous, arboreal, and nocturnal. It has a more southerly distribution than its close relative, Meconema thalassinum. Its known range includes southern France, southwestern Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, the former Yugoslavia, and the United Kingdom, where it has been recorded since 2001. It preys on the horse-chestnut leaf miner, Cameraria ohridella. The IUCN Red List classifies Meconema meridionale as a species of least concern, noting that it is widespread, common, and has a very large total population.
