Matrona basilaris Selys, 1853 is a large damselfly species. Males of this species are brilliant metallic green, while females are reddish brown. Their wing color ranges from dark blue to reddish brown. This species and its subspecies have been recorded in China, Japan, Northern Vietnam, and Eastern Laos. Individuals are typically found around mountain streams or rivers with dense surrounding vegetation, at a modest altitude of approximately 900 meters.
