About Matapa aria (Moore, 1865)

Both male and female adult Matapa aria are overall chocolate brown in base color. Males have an upperside that is pale brown, with a short, indented, comma-shaped grey streak positioned obliquely beneath the cell of the forewing. Their cilia are yellowish white, and both their underside and palpi are bright ferruginous brown. Females have an upperside that is dark chocolate brown and lack the indented streak seen in males; the cilia of their hindwing are pale orange yellow, while their underside is bright ferruginous brown. The larvae of Matapa aria feed on Bambusa striata, Ochlandra travancorica, and Ochlandra scriptoria.
