About Mastophora cornigera (Hentz, 1850)

Mastophora cornigera is a species of orb weaver that belongs to the spider family Araneidae. Its natural distribution extends from the United States south to Nicaragua. Just like all currently known species in the genus Mastophora, adult female Mastophora cornigera are classified as bolas spiders. Instead of catching prey in a typical orb web, they capture prey using one or more sticky drops positioned at the tip of a single silk line. Male Mastophora cornigera and juvenile female Mastophora cornigera capture their prey directly using their legs.
