About Marpissa lineata (C.L.Koch, 1846)
Marpissa lineata (C.L.Koch, 1846) is a species of jumping spider belonging to the family Salticidae. It is native to Canada and the United States, and is widely distributed across the eastern half of North America. Confirmed recorded locations for the species include Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee, Missouri, Illinois, and Michigan, and it also occurs in Canada. In Florida and along the southern coast, M. lineata appears to be displaced by the related species Marpissa sulcosa. This small spider is commonly found in leaf mould within forest and shrub communities. It is also reported to be a common member of the leaf litter community in prairie grass habitats.
