Marpesia petreus, the ruddy daggerwing, is a butterfly species that belongs to the Nymphalidae family. Its main range extends from Brazil north through Central America, Mexico, and the West Indies to southern Florida. Stray individuals can be found as far north as Arizona, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, and southern Texas. This species has a wingspan of 70–95 mm. Its larvae feed on Ficus carica, Ficus pumila, and Ficus citrifolia.
