About Manilkara jaimiqui (C.Wright ex Griseb.) Dubard
Manilkara jaimiqui, commonly known as wild dilly, is a woody plant in the Sapotaceae family. It is native to tropical regions of North America, found in the West Indies and south Florida. Its natural habitat consists of coastal hammocks and pine rocklands. It grows as a small tree or shrub with thick evergreen leaves. It produces small yellow flowers year-round, and bears large scaly fruits. This species is split into four distinct subspecies with little geographic overlap between them. The subspecies and their ranges are: M. jaimiqui subsp. emarginata found in The Bahamas and south Florida; M. jaimiqui subsp. haitensis found in the Dominican Republic and Haiti; M. jaimiqui subsp. jaimiqui found in Cuba (Pinar del RÃo and Oriente) and Jamaica; M. jaimiqui subsp. wrightiana found in central Cuba, and occasionally in Oriente.
