About Manduca pellenia Herrich-Schäffer

Manduca pellenia is a moth species that belongs to the Sphingidae family. It has been recorded in Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, and Ecuador. Its wingspan measures 107 to 126 mm. The underside of its abdomen is shaded with brown scales, and this marking is particularly prominent in males. On the upperside of the forewing, heavy black discal patches form a distinct band. In Costa Rica, there is likely one generation of adults per year, with moths active on the wing from September to November. Adult Manduca pellenia feed on flower nectar. The larvae of this species feed on Solanum hayesii and Cestrum megalophyllum.
