About Manduca occulta Rothschild & Jordan, 1903
Manduca occulta, first described by Rothschild & Karl Jordan in 1903, has a wingspan ranging from 105 to 120 mm. It closely resembles Manduca diffissa tropicalis, and can only be distinguished from this species by examining its genitalia. The underside of its hindwing bears brownish-black bands. This moth species is distributed from Panama northward through Central America – which includes Belize, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Costa Rica – and Mexico to southern Arizona, and is occasionally found in southern Florida.
